The Hunter Douglas LiteRise® (Cordless) lifting system is a reliable and child safe lifting system used on many of Hunter Douglas shade types. When the lift system fails, it is pretty simple to repair.  After repairing a couple hundred shades, we have found that the lift systems fails for a couple different reasons…the most common being transmission failure in which the internal transmission take-up cord inside the transmission breaks.  Another common failure is the lift cord pulls through the plastic Pocket and Ferrule (located at the bottom rail of the shade) and pulls up through the shade fabric. (Look under ‘Related Items to purchase pocket & Ferrules) Since the lift cord rarely breaks, it is possible to re-thread back down through the shade and out the bottom rail. A new pocket and ferrule is used to recapture and secure the lift cord locking it back into the bottom rail. A re-threading tool can be made by cutting a 10″-12″ piece of very thin wire, then folding in half to create a loop that can be guided up through the lift cord rout hole and bring the lift cord back down through the bottom rail. A pre-made threading tool can also be purchased in a “Cord Replacement Kit” available on this site. To determine what the lift problem may be: Remove the shade from the window and place on a table. Gently remove the Right Side plastic headrail end cap. Slide the headrail to the left exposing the cord takeup spool, transmission and lift motor. Inspect the lift cord spool for jumbled up lift cord and conical takeup cone inside the transmission for broken cord. The lift motor is pre-tensioned and spring wound. The motor(s) usually become un-wound when the transmission cord breaks or lift cords pull up through the bottom rail. When we repair this lift system, we always replace the motor(s) so that it is fresh and ready to provide many more years of service. If you happen to release the motor from its pre-tensioned condition, wind the shaft clockwise 42 revolutions to re-tension. IF the motor starts “Clicking” before reaching 42 revolutions, then the motor is bad and should not be used. Click on “Additional Images” above for more information on selecting proper Transmission, Motor, Pocket and Ferrule and shade removal / installation. Note: If your shade has a White Transmission: Replace with a Red Transmission for shades widths less than 48″ or a Black transmission for shades over 48″ wide.
